It is not because things are difficult that we do not dare, it is because we do not dare that they are difficult.

If you’ve been wondering, “can I wear lashes & finish a triathlon?” I am here to tell you it’s possible. 😂 In fact, I want to know, would you dare to do it?
Last summer, I started entertaining the idea of doing a triathlon. I have ZERO experience swimming or cycling & I haven’t run in a few years.
So, I reached out to a friend who was training for a triathlon & she immediately said I should do it. It was about 4-5 weeks away.
I laughed out loud. 😂
She then explained it was a super sprint & would entail a 150-yard swim, 6.1-mile bike ride, & 1.5-mile run…it sounded slightly doable.
After my research to understand the type of training & equipment I would need, I decided I wasn’t worried about my time. I just wanted to cross the finish line & learn what I could on the journey.
My equipment/plan included bike shorts, begin telling others about it, and find a bike to borrow, and look for any tips others might have.
I decided it might be wise to observe an event first to understand better how it all works. It was inspiring & exciting to be there on race day & also a little intimidating because, well, you know, it’s a triathlon. I loved being there, though, & knew it was in my future.
Fast forward to this past weekend. I officially earned my first super sprint triathlon medal. What a great day!
When I first started considering this, I took a poll in my instagram stories asking, “have you ever been curious about training for a triathlon?” The poll went from 43% yes when I first asked to 83% yes after explaining the super sprint distances.
How often do we sell ourselves short because, like myself, when you hear something like ‘triathlon,’ you instantly picture the Ironman events we see on tv. “I could never do that.”
Why do we immediately dismiss what might be possible & believe it's just "too far beyond our reach"?
But I say…what if you could?
You don’t have to compete in an Ironman event to finish a triathlon. My goals are always much simpler: show up to the journey and see what I can learn along the way.
I hope these tips can inspire you to show up to your journey & see what you learn along the way.
